Every Photo Tells A Story by Gerry van Gent

Every Photo Tells A Story by Gerry van Gent (MMK198)

I guess it is no surprise that Gerry van Gent is one of my favorite designers. Not only is she crazy talented but she has a heart of gold!  So when I say Gerry… we are missing you… would you mind doing another kit? She replies – Of course!

Her latest creation for us features a bunch of 49 and Market products from the Cottage Life collection (I Have to say this is one of my all time favorite collections – I LOVE the colors in it!). But anyway – let’s get back to the kit… Gerry provided us with step-by-step color photos and direction. Yes, these are the clearest directions we have ever offered! Unlike myself, Gerry has a clear, level head and knows how to get directions across in a concise and precise manner. English may not be her first language but she does way better with directions than I do. So thank you for that Gerry!! 😉

Here it is…

Every Photo Tells A Story by Gerry van Gent (MMK198)
Every Photo Tells A Story by Gerry van Gent (MMK198)

Thank you Gerry!!! It’s just fabulous!

Another thing I love about this kit – is that it isn’t messy.  Sure it’s layered with beautiful details that make it one to cherish but if you look closely there’s no gesso, no paint…. just a hint of some distress ink (not included). I can love a mess but sometimes… you just want to do your thing. This one allows you to move forward without waiting. I loved that this time (I love all our kits and sometimes a mess is fine or I don’t mind when a layout that takes a week to complete- all depends on my mood I suppose but with the holidays approaching – we don’t have all the time in the world right now). Have I ranted enough?

Using 2 more sheets of paper and just a few extra flowers, I pulled this bonus sample out…

Love Bonus Sample (MMK198)

Not too shabby if I do say so myself. In fact – it’s a favorite for now for sure!! I love these colors and that photo of my boys… well, makes a Mama’s heart sing even if I have used it over and over again on samples.

So I hope you enjoy this kit as much as I do. gerry’s work is always impressive and fun to follow along. She gets the wheels turning so you look at things in a new light.

You can find all the details here.

Not sure what new products are scheduled to come in soon but we will have new kits from Gabrielle Pollacco and Pascale B. I know I have been promising that Pascale B kit… I promise it is coming soon. Gabi’s kit will of course be another fan favorite too – she uses pinks and greens in a delicate way that really packs a punch.

Thanks for checking in!

Gerry van Gent Kit here!

Picture Perfect by Gerry van Gent

WOW it has been entirely too long since our last blog post. Lot’s of changes and exciting things to come.  Since that last post, we officially moved. We’re in a temporary hold so to speak as the official warehouse is being converted and set up. hoping to have it all done in the next few months. good news is we are back up and running and orders are pretty much all caught up on. Expected ship times are not back to 2-3 days out. We also have lots of fun new things coming in. More chippies, papers and embellishments!!!

Did I forget to mention kits!!!!!!!  What would TSD be without our designer kits?

This of course brings me to the fabulous announcement that we have a new kit from the one and ONLY Gerry van Gent!  Gerry is not only a fabulous designer but a good friend.  If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you just want to hug her. She has that way about her.  Have I mentioned this before? Probably. 🙂

Gerry’s projects are ALWAYS filled with detail upon detail. Each element and technique she uses all add up to create a special page.  I could watch her videos over and over. Each one, something a little different and something outside of the box.  In addition to loving Gerry’s work and technique, I also have to say how much fun it was for me to work with the Flower Fairy™ papers as this was the first chance I have had.

Layers and details for sure!!!!  And you can create any title that works for your photo as Gerry created her own banner with a printed out title and some scrap papers. Perfect idea when you don’t have the right title on hand!

With some left over cut outs and a few extra’s, I made this bonus page. Can’t wait to add the perfect photos because these layouts are sure to get hung up in my new office!

Oh so much fun if you are a fussy cutter lover!!! I find it so therapeutic and hope you do too. These papers are just begging to be cut out and layered.

Thank you Gerry!!!  Great layout and kit!!!!  Can’t wait for you next!!

What else is going on here? Always something it seems like. We have more Dusty Attic and 2Crafty that recently arrived. Will be sure to get posted online real soon.  We will also be ordering Maja’s new holiday line for sure. I can never get enough Maja Design papers. New kits – I am so behind!!!  Lots in the works from all your fav’s – Gabi, Di, Pascale, Nathmael and Elaina! Next one will be form Gabi as I am a bit behind posting a beach layout but better late than never so get those beach photos ready.

Beautiful family and beautiful layout! Thank you Gerry!

It’s truly one of those kits you want to make over and over and if not, you’ll certainly use the techniques learned over and over.

I tried living up to Gerry’s work for the bonus on this one. Loe the layout but might have gone a bit heavy on the floral cluster at the bottom. Good thing is you don’t have to do what I did. 🙂

Lots of new products coming in – Brand New chippies from all our favorite companies as well as the new paper collection from Blue Fern. We’ll get it posted as soon as we can. Trying to keep up.

Just a heads up, we are running a few days behind on orders. Please be patient, we’ll do our best to get caught up soon.

Unconditional Love by Gerry van Gent (MMK159)

Gerry van Gent has a new kit for us!!!! Did you hear me scream that? 🙂  I love Gerry and her work! As is usual with Gerry, her latest tutorial shows you some tips and tricks as she once again maximizes products and produces and amazing layout that packs a punch with color pops.

Was I right? Beautiful as always! The layout features the beautiful House of Roses papers from LemonCraft. These have been quite popular and for good reason.  So versatile and beautiful you can mix and match in any color combo (or just about) for beautiful results! When you purchase the kit, you will get access to the online tutorial as well as materials needed to follow along.  Be sure to read full product description as we are offering a basic, plus and complete kit depending on your needs. Plus includes the ink, complete inks and stamp set. Please note the stamp set was used to create the beautiful frame around Gerry’s photo. If you have the inks and need/want the stamp, you can always buy he basic kit and add the stamp on. We try to include links where possible to make life a bit easier when ordering.

Didn’t need much extra to create the bonus page – a sheet of paper, title and a few flowers. Here’s what I came up with…

Cherish Bonus Sample MMK159

It’s been so grey here in New York that I didn’t get the best photo for color purposes but hopefully you get the gist of it. I have to say – LOVE how it turned out. Humble aren’t I? 😉

Thank you Gerry for a fabulous tutorial and layout!!!!!

We have so much planned. I never did a recap of CHA did I?  To be honest I can make it short and sweet. I LOVE going to CHA because I love getting to catch up with people that share the same passion and creative inspiration. Nothing beats it. I mean I got to meet Joanne Flannery from Embellish It in New Zealand. Been in touch for over a year but to get to meet face to face is wonderful. Frank Garcia – well, we got to pal around a bit. Vicky Boutin – LOVE –  a bright soul who makes you smile!  I did miss my Gerry – Gerry and I met at CHA 2 years ago and consider her a deer friend ever since.  Too many people to really start naming them all but point is – such a great time and wonderful opportunity to meet new and old friends.

That being said – new products is also a lot of fun. To be honest though… not so much for me – for us. Prima – of course! Ordered a lot of it! Crafters Workshop – for sure! We have some new companies that will be coming in – Creative Couture – a die company from Australia with some stunning designs… Flowers – lots of flowers coming. New Ranger – yes, we will have Tim’s new Distress Crayons and a bunch of fun new distressed mediums that add aging and cracking…. I am sure there’s more but honestly can’t think about it. We will post as new things come in so be sure to check in often.

New kits… well – we have a lot lined up! Next will be a kit from the ever so talented Gabrielle Pollacco – look for it on Monday.  After that we’ll have new kits from Delaina Burns, Rachelle Sigurdson, Pascale B., Maja Nowak and Di Garling! – and those are just the ones coming in the next 2-3 weeks. Even more after that.

Thanks for checking in. Hope you enjoy!

G&G Kt is Here!

Beautiful by Gabrielle Pollacco

I must confess… I am living the dream! Married to a wonderful man, three fabulous kids and a business that is all I have dreamt of.  The Scrapbook Diaries started several years ago when I began teaching at local stores in the New York area. Somewhere along the line I started wanted to learn more, try new things and was always in aw of different designers works. The website started and some very talented designers agreed to make online how-to videos for us.  It has evolved in to the site it is today.

Why all the rambling? Well…. When you are lucky enough to have some of the friends I do, you get the most talented, amazing designers in the world that come together.  From time to time we do what my kids call a “Mash-Up”.  Today’s kit, the G&G Kit is a double kit in which Gabrielle Pollacco and Gerry van Gent have each created a layout and tutorial for us. They use the Spring and Fall watercolor pencil set from Prima marketing as their color base. Each one uses different techniques and different colors fro the set to create two very different pages.  And as always, both Gabi and Gerry give us such great insight in to their creative process.

The layouts…..

So different and both so amazing! You might notice a common element among the layouts, the stamp set.  The kit also uses Gerry’s Flower Stamp Set that she designed exclusive for the Scrapbook Diaries. the stamp set has three stamp clusters on the 4″ x 6″ sheet.  Perfect floral elements for so many crafting needs.

THANK YOU GERRY AND GABRIELLE!!!!!  Amazing designers and amazing friends!

The kit comes in Basic, Basic plus watercolor pencils and Complete. Basic has al the papers, flowers and trinkets to make these two pages as well as at least two additional pages (bonus samples shown below).  The Complete kit also comes with Gerry’s Flower Stamp Set, 6×6 Butterfly Collage Stencil (Crafters workshop) and the Spring & Fall Watercolor Pencil Set (Prima).

US customers – when purchasing complete kit (or for any order over $100 use coupon SHIPFREE at checkout).

International Customers – when buying this kit, click on the option of – International Complete.  This will include cost of complete kit as well as shipping (you can add some light weight items to your order (chipboard, stencils, stamps, etc.) for this price – if ordering heavy items like otis or a lot of paper, we will need to charge more). If choosing this option, click “Bill Me Actual Shipping” at checkout – we won’t charge you but it is the only way the system will process correctly.

Hope that all makes sense.

A look at the bonus sample pages (no video direction – I did take some photos along the way that you will receive in printouts.

Smile by Gerry van Gent

Smile Scrapbook Kit by Gerry van Gent

Finally posting Gerry van Gent‘s latest kit, Smile! And it sure does make me smile!

Once again Gerry thinks outside the box and mixes her layers, pieces and colors in such a fantastic way. She uses Pion and Maja papers which pop right off the page.  In addition, Gerry uses the Texture Stamp Set she designed for The Scrapbook Diaries. She uses the stamp set to seamlessly blend elements of the paper in to her layout. Can you even spot it?

Gerry van Gent's Flower Stamp Set

Gerry van Gent has long been known for her detailed works and layered wonders. In fact you may have seen a kit or two (more on their way) here at The Scrapbook Diaries.  Gerry’s details in her works are beyond amazing. Stamps have long played an intricate role in these details.

We are so excited to announce three new stamp sets exclusive to The Scrapbook Diaries in which Gerry shares some of her favorite images and pieces perfect for layering on your works! Here they are…

Gerry van Gent's Butterfly Stamp Set
Gerry van Gent’s Butterfly Stamp Set

Each stamp set is a plate of 4″ x 6″ – made from clear polymer in the US. These stamps are perfect for all of your crafting needs.

Thank you Gerry for more AMAZING products!!!!

In addition to adding Gerry’s stamps to the Storefront, we’ve been sneaking more and more new products in daily now.  We added some fabulous ScrapFx chipboard pieces yesterday and the brand new Ingvild Bolme Resins in tonight.  You never know what you’ll find in the store these days. 🙂

Coming up… More new products daily – I have so much here waiting to be added. Kits…. Sight change up but so much coming. Maiko Kosugi‘s BEAUTIFUL layout will be coming but might be about 2 weeks off – I miscalculated and don’t have the chippies needed on hand. They are in route. Same can be said for the amazingly talented Di Garling. Wait till you see her first kit for us! What else… lets see… actually coming a new kit from Olga Heldwein and Nadia Canizzo.  Thought Nadia was done? Well she might have missed things a bit. 🙂  Always happy to welcome her works! We’ll post them as soon as we can.

Enjoy the Moment by Gerry van Gent

Enjoy the Moments Scrapbook Kit by Gerry van Gent

For once in my life I am on time and as promised posting a kit when I said I would. 🙂  I must confess my excitement for this lit is above and beyond (not that I am not always excited to post kits). It’s just Gerry van Gent has an eye for composition and detail that I have never seen.  This layout is filled with amazing layers, tips and techniques for really making the layout pop. I thoroughly enjoyed every last second as I followed Gerry along on her journey.  The video tutorial that accompanies this kit is nothing less than a class. only difference is you can take Gerry’s class at home and not have to travel to Amsterdam (of course if you are going there, you should really inquire as to whether or not she’ll be holding any workshops in her studio during your stay).  Gerry’s work is always brimming with detail but when you watch her step by step take you through the process you are just in awe of the detail and the mind… How does she come up with these ideas?

I could keep going on but before I do, let me show you what I am talking about…

Enjoy the Moment (MMK117)

Enjoy the Moments Scrapbook Kit by Gerry van Gent

Where do I beging?  It’s got fussy cutting of course, stamping, stenciling and oh so much more. One of the things I loved about this layout, no down time, no dry time.  With the exception of a coat of gesso on your chippies, the only other medium used was ink.  An array of beautiful colors that mix and match to make a unique project look seamless.

I for one am hanging this one up in the house! Of course I will need to find the perfect pic like Gerry did. How cute is her daughter and how perfect does it look here?

All this being said… I could totally follow Gerry along but when it came time to creating a bonus sample I was beyond baffled as to how could I come up with something comparable. Truth is, I can’t.  The details and composition Gerry used were just beyond my taunts that I had to do something similar but… I don’t know the words. I do love my bonus sample but took it in a complete opposite direction. I did use left over elements from the Blue Fern Studios papers. In fact, all that’s added to the kit for the bonus sample is one sheet of patterned paper, a sheet of solid card stock, 5 small flowers and a single word chipboard title. Bascially I am trying to say I didn’t add much to make this happen.  The whole thing did get turned completely by my choice of patterned paper for the background… I used a sheet of paper from there Timeless Memories collection from Prima. yes it is grungy. Not sure how I thought I would wind up with something as pretty and delicate looking as Gerry’s but in the end I like the end result. Hope you do too….

You’re totally scrolling up and down going how does this go, right? 🙂  I warned you – polar opposites.

OK, so there you have it.  Quick note, we also added Gerry’s Distress Piercing Wheel to the store. Limited quantities right now but we have more on order. This is a nifty tool that pierces paper amazing when used over a foam mat. No need to pull out the sewing machine if you don’t want to.

Thank you Gerry for this amazing kit!  I know I have said it countless times but SO HAPPY TO HAVE YOU BACK!  Love seeing all your works!

Can you believe we have more lined up this week? Not sure when I will find the time to create, post and fill orders but we’ll make it happen… A double kit from Gabrielle Pollacco this Friday!! that means 2 pages with 2 videos plus 2 bonus layouts!  I think you might like these A LOT!!!!!!!!

Thanks for checking in.

Little Angel by Gerry van Gent

Little Angel by Gerry van Gent

Today is a very exciting day for me…. Finally able to share with you such exciting news.  Guess by the name of the title of this post you already know where I am headed with this so I will back track a bit….

A year ago I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the ever talented Gerry van Gent from Holland at CHA thanks to our friend Frank.  Of course I knew how hugely talented Gerry is. All you have to do is take one look at a beautifully layered layout and you can tell immediately when it is hers. She just has a look that always leaves you saying how did she do that or look at what she added there.  Always beautiful in her signature style.  From the moment I met her, I knew Gerry was not only a treasured designers but a person to treasure.  She’s fabulous!

Gerry needed to take some time off from designing but vowed to come back. Well she is coming back with a vengeance and rocking it right where she left off.  I am humbled that she’s agreed to design for us. She has so much to teach us and a wonderful way of going about things. When you purchase her kit and watch her video, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

So without further ado, here’s Gerry’s first kit for The Scrapbook Diaries, Little Angel…

Here are some close-ups…

How beautiful is her daughter?  Love that pic!

Anyway back tot the kit… We are of erring the kit in 2 versions – Basic and Complete.  Basic includes the papers, embellishments, etc. Complete includes the mist, stamp and stencil. You can see the full product description here.  I really can’t say enough how great I found Gerry’s video.  So many tips and tricks for adding detail to your layouts.

As with just about all of our kits, I was able to put together a bonus sample using 2 extra sheets of papers and some flowers with the leftover pieces of scraps.  Gerry left me some amazing pieces of Maja paper.  This time though the color palate changed a bit as I focused on the images in left over paper – the kids.  I am so happy with how it turned out. Counting down for a snow day here so I can get the perfect picture for it as these are two layouts that will surely be going up on the walls of the Meyerowitz household.

My take on the bonus sample…

Winter Wonderland Bonus Sample MMK111
Winter Wonderland Bonus Sample by Janene Meyerowitz (MMK111)

As you will note the yellow wouldn’t have worked for me so I added a bit of watered down Distress Spray in Stormy Sky. Found it matched the Maja blue perfectly.

Hope you like as much as I do.

Thank you Gerry for your friendship and for making such a great kit for us to share.  Classes without borders is a wonderful approach if you ask me. 🙂

Later this week we have another new designer to The Scrapbook Diaires lined up. She’s bringing us another beautiful layout so be sure to check back in at the end of the week

Thanks,

Janene
